Pantry Helps Families Feed Their Pets

Many of our neighbors are experiencing job and income reduction due to the coronavirus pandemic. During these uncertain times, we believe it’s important to do everything we can to keep pets with their families who may need a hand. So, SFDOG has been operating a pet food pantry — dog and cat food for anyone who needs it — with the Latino Task Force that already distributes (human) food and supplies to 7,000 people a week in the Mission district via the Mission Food Hub. The pet food pantry has been operating since late July 2020. We are the only pet food pantry in the Mission.

You Can Help

There are two ways you can support the pet food pantry to help people who may be struggling to feed their pets:

1) VOLUNTEER SIGNUP HERE: We need help with food distribution. Sign up for a 2-hour shift during the week (see schedule below).

2) DONATE HERE: Make a tax deductible donation to SFDOG for purchasing pet food. SFDOG is purchasing food at wholesale through a special arrangement with a pet food manufacturer. If you prefer to pay by check, please mail to SFDOG, P.O. Box 31071, San Francisco, CA 94131. (100% of donations are used to buy the food.)

Volunteering includes repackaging food into family-size bags, instructing people how to pick up the food, and distributing food bags. This is a contact-less volunteer position, meaning you will remain at a social distance from others at all time; the work takes place inside and outside of the building. (Volunteers must wear protective gloves and a face mask — we will provide these to you, if needed.)

SFDOG and partner organizations assume no liability for volunteer participation.

Thank you for helping people care for their pets. Donations to SFDOG are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowable under the law. Email SFDOG if your have any questions or ideas: info@sfdog.org

We had an amazing, tasty and incredibly successful fundraiser for SFDOG's pet food pantry at the Mission Food Hub on April 30. Thank you humans – and dogs – for your participation and support.

Many thanks to Standard Deviant Brewing and Seven Stills for the thirst-quenching beer (there's none better in this city), and to Reeve Wines and Lambert Bridge Winery for the delectable wines.

Thanks to everyone for pulling together in many different ways, SFDOG will keep purchasing (at wholesale) and distributing free dog and cat food throughout 2022 to Mission neighborhood pet owners whose families are affected by COVID-19 and its economic fall-out.
