Help Families Keep Their Pets Fed

During the COVID-19 lockdown, when many San Franciscans suddenly lost jobs and faced food insecurity, SFDOG partnered with the San Francisco SPCA to launch a pet food pantry in the Mission District. Working with the Mission Food Hub food bank, which served thousands of families with essential groceries each week, SFDOG recruited more than 75 volunteers to re-bag and distribute pet food during food bank operations three days per week.

Together, we distributed 75 tons of dog and cat food—more than any other pet food pantry in the Bay Area—helping families keep and care for their beloved pets during a time of crisis.

Today, the need continues as many families struggle with the rising cost of living. SFDOG now provides pet food to San Francisco Animal Care & Control, which distributes it to families who use its low-cost vaccination clinics held multiple times per year.

Please help if you’re able to do so because the demand and need for pet food remains high. Thank you.

How You Can Help

  • Donate pet food: Canned or dry dog and cat food is welcome (open bags must be in their original packaging). Please drop off at a designated SFDOG event or email us for a drop-off location.

  • Make a financial donation: Contributions allow us to purchase pet food from wholesale distributors and help more families keep their pets healthy and at home.
