We’re in serious danger of losing critical access to Upper Douglass Dog Park. A small group of people in the neighborhood adjoining the park is trying to get a change in park hours that would hurt people who work during the day and rely on morning and evening access to walk their dogs.

Last week, Rec & Park went directly to the Park Commission’s Operations Committee with a restrictive proposal, bypassing a requirement to get community input. The committee rejected much of the proposal, but forwarded a recommendation to modify the park hours directly to the full Rec & Park Commission.

This recommendation to change the hours of Upper Douglass Dog Park to 7 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (current hours are 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.) will be voted on at a full commission meeting on June 20th.

TAKE ACTION

We think a fair compromise is within reach, but not if this recommendation is up for a vote on June 20th.

We urge you to email Supervisor Rafael Mandelman and ask him to get this restrictive proposal removed from the Rec & Park Commission's consent calendar on June 20th and urge him to work with SFDOG and the neighborhood dog advocates on a compromise that maintains access for working people who rely on Upper Douglass Park to exercise their dogs.
